On April 17, 2012, the U.S. House of Representatives passed HR 4089, the Sportsmen's Heritage Act, supposedly to protect and enhance opportunities for recreational hunting, fishing, and shooting.
This bill is a thinly disguised measure to gut the 1964 Wilderness Act and protections for every acre of the National Wilderness Preservation System.
Supported by the National Rifle Association, the bill would allow the dismemberment of wilderness through road, dam and building construction, as well as extensive habitat modifications. We are petitioning Senate Majority Leader Reid who can prevent this destructive legislation from going any further.

Lanvin’s Pre-Fall 2011 photo spread is shocking, to say the least. Not only does the collection feature dead fur “fashion” ON the models, it features models posing with some of the dead furbearing animals still exploited for fur.

In Lanvin’s latest advertising campaign showcasing the fur and clothing in their collection, models are photographed with taxidermy specimens of a tiger, a mountain lion, a black leopard, a polar bear, and a wolf on leashes. These disturbing photos can be viewed at:

Of course, we look forward to the day that fur will not be a part of the fashion industry at all. The agony and torture furbearing animals suffer on fur “farms” is indescribable. It’s important that consumers stand up to the fashion industry by refusing to buy anything using fur, as well as any store selling fur.

For Lanvin to pose models with taxidermy specimens of these dead animals is, quite literally, adding insult to injury. Wild animals are not photo props, dead or alive. Lanvin is, not only promoting the cruel slaughter of animals for their fur, they’re promoting the inhumane use of animals every way possible – all in the name of profit.

We’ve alerted you before that Vanity Fair magazine has been featuring baby leopards and lions in their fashion advertisements. Now, they’ve gone even further. 
Vanity Fair's March 2011 “Hollywood issue” cover is a wide shot of many Hollywood glamour stars - and one lonely lion cub being bottle fed. If you look closely at this cover, you’ll realize that there is absolutely no reason for this baby lion to be included in this mayhem. This is purely for shock value – an attention grabber.

Anthony Mackie boasted the best part of the photo shoot was the lion cub. Rashida Jones, who posed bottle feeding the cub, claimed “she’s suffering for her art” in an uncomfortable gown. But, what about the lion cub involved. What about his suffering? 

An interview with super producer Peter Guber on page 261 shows him posing in a suit with a full grown tiger on a leash.....for no reason at all.

According to USDA regulations, you can only have contact with a lion cub between the ages of 8-12 weeks old. What are the implications of this? Since the time they can be used is so short and because advertising campaigns using big cats is becoming more popular, all of this leads to an explosion in breeding these animals to fill the demand.

Even if they appear to be well treated on the set, what happens when they leave, when they grow, when they become dangerous? USDA rules allow an owner to keep a big cat in a concrete-floored, chain link jail cell not much bigger than a parking space – for the rest of their life! Thousands of people throughout this country are licensed to own these animals, make money off these animals, yet enforcement resources for the minimal standards are very limited. The cats frequently end up languishing in substandard cages for 20+ years, just so an advertiser can get that one shot that may grab some attention.

The UK government plans to put half of England's state-owned forests up for sale to private firms to raise billions to reduce the budget deficit and as a give-away to the nascent biomass industry. Ancient woodlands, regenerating natural forests and planted trees all provide important ecosystems and could be chopped down to make way for holiday villages, golf courses and commercial logging. This is theft of the English cultural heritage with woodlands and natural landscapes. Instead the UK government should fully protect many of these woodlands, fund forest ecological restoration and native plantation establishment, and strive in haste to get to 25% forest cover and beyond for their own ecological sustainability.

A Dog's Life and his dead in the European Union
When we reach our goal, this petition will be handed over personally to Jose Baroso (President of the European Commission) and the Hungarian Ambassador to Austria.
Thousands of dogs have been killed in Eastern European animalkilling stations by sadistic people, like this poor puppy-boy, badly tortured and slowly killed to satisfy the punisher. This dog was found in a trashcan at Toeroekbalint (Hungary). There is a former judo-champion, Josef Tuncsik, employed by the local government, who is very sucessfull in hunting, torturing and killing dogs. And to top it all off, Mr. Tuncsik doesn't have to worry that he will be prosecuted by law…because nobody cares about his cruel doing, neither the government nor the police. Each year, an increasing number of leopards and other animals are killed because of human encroachment on animals' natural habitats. As alarming proportions of their homelands are lost to development, "wild" animals are forced to live in closer proximity to humans and often wander into or near villages in their search for food. In the video, the instructor, Lieutenant Combo Aguilar ordered the soldiers get a dog. The dog was tied up so he was unable to move. Combo Aguilar, first tortured the animal in front of the group. After torturing the dog he stabbed the innocent dog many times on the head. The dog was still alive and crying in despair and pain, so Lt. Combo Aguilar grabbed his machete and decapitated the dog. Then he removed the heart of the poor dog , while holding the heart he rubbed it on the faces of some of the soldiers and he asked one of them to bite it.

Hi all!
I need help with a petition against hunters.
In my country (Italy) hunters have ridiculous rights, they can even enter private property without permission. I started this petition to help support OIPA (with which I cohoperate) in their fight against hunting. It turns out that major dairy companies like Land O?Lakes and Challenge Dairy get some of their milk from calves that are cruelly confined.

Soon after birth, babies are taken from their mothers and shipped away to Mendes Calf Ranch in California, where they live in cramped, filthy crates with barely enough room to move.

Calves are confined while their mothers are being milked at different dairy "factory farms." The babies undergo a quick growth process at Mendes ? intended to prepare them for the harsh demands of being milking cows themselves once they leave.

Day after day, these calves live by themselves in crates so small they can?t even turn around or lie down naturally. Such confinement violates California?s animal cruelty laws, which is why the Animal Legal Defense Fund is suing Mendes Calf Ranch.
